Last week the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) hosted the 8th annual gala at The Palace Hotel in SF.  Above two of the beautiful attendees clad in gowns from DRESS:  Ebony (left) wearing a stunning dark green, floral one shoulder gown by Teri Jon and Italinia (right) clad in a fuschia ruffle gown by Marchesa Notte.  We love the color, the pattern, the boldness…. we love how hot (and gorgeous) these ladies are!

First Thursdays on Grand

 

Let’s not let downtown Oakland have all the fun.  In case you’ve missed it, Grand Avenue now has a “First Thursdays on Grand” and the next one is this Thursday, October 17  from 6-9 PM.  This is a perfect time to check out all the new, hip thriving businesses in the 3200-3900 blocks of Grand.  Even if you can’t visit this Thursday this area is worth a stroll any day or night of the week.

If you’re tired of the Starbucks/Peet’s experience be sure to try Monkey Forest Road where you can get one of the best cups of coffee in town and browse the unique furniture and art.  Breakfast treats are also available, and some are even glutton free if that’s your thing.  You’ve never had pizza like Boot and Shoe Service offers.  Guess what this space used to be – well now it houses some unique and delicious pizza with extraordinary toppings.  Zagat continually gives this place rave reviews.    Walking up the street a bit you’ll find a coin exchange, chocolate store, a framing shop and one of the newer businesses, Ordinaire, a much needed wine bar featuring many local vintners as well as wines from faraway places like Italy and France.  If you’re still in the mood for pizza, cross the street and try The Star, deep dish pizza at its best. On site parking and the yummy pizza make it a major contender to that “other” deep dish spot it town.

We don’t know what’s next for Oakland, but don’t let the Grand Avenue area go unnoticed!
